August Newsletter
The Kearney High FCCLA chapter has been hard at work throughout the summer. Six members attended National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California. The conference was held from July 2-8, 2016 and provided many rewarding experiences for the over 8,000 students in attendance. All six of the students from Kearney High at Nationals competed with a STAR event.
Each student returned home successfully; Taylor Siegal received a silver medal in Food Innovations. Mia Kegley received gold in the Leadership event. Destiny Henne and Marina Peterson received gold in Chapter in Review Display. Leslie Aspen received a gold in Sports Nutrition. Andrew Hale placed first in the nation in Fashion Construction, receiving top gold. He also received over $30,000 in scholarships to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California and the Art Institute.
Mia Kegley, this year's chapter President, the Career Leader Team Chairperson and Overall Council Coordinator for Nebraska's State Peer Officer Team (SPOT). The group consists of 15 members from Nebraska. The purpose of SPOT is to promote FCCLA National Programs.
During the month of August, chapter officers were busy preparing for the upcoming school year. At the officer meeting officers voted on a chapter theme for the new year. Because of the new KHS building, officers decided on a ¨back to the future¨ theme. The theme allows the chapter to take a trip down memory lane while incorporating FCCLA history; as well as setting goals and building skills for the future.
