October Newsletter

This month our chapter has been hard at work preparing for the busy winter months. Our Chapter held a chapter meeting, where we we discussed our chapter T-Shirts. The t-shirt order form will be due at our next meeting, on Wednesday, October 26.

Our chapter attended District Leadership Conference (DLC) at the UNK Student Union. Nineteen members were present as they attended sessions and met new people. Each year, DLC provides a great way for new and potential members to learn more about FCCLA as well as mingle with other students throughout our district.

On Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 pm our chapter will join Key Club, to trick-or-treat for canned goods. Participants will dress up and go door-to-door to ask for canned and nonperishable donations The proceeds will be going to local community organizations and FCCLA members will be hosting a social after the event.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, so our members partnered with Kearney High's Relationships class to spread awareness about teen dating and relationship violence. The students in class made a paper chain, with facts about domestic violence written on it. The chain was hung up in the window of the Relationships classroom, for all KHS students to see as they walk by. Students also wore purple on October 20th with is National Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

Our chapter is also selling different flavors of popcorn for a fundraiser. The popcorn is $18 and will help support students in their travels to State Leadership Conference during April in Lincoln, as well as National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN this summer. Reach out to an FCCLA member to purchase!
